RELATIVISTIC KLYSTRON RESEARCH FOR HIGH GRADIENT ACCELERATORSt

چکیده
Relativistic klystrons are being developed as a power source for high gradient accelerator applications which include large linear electron-positron colliders, compact accelerators, and FEL sources. We have attained 200MW peak power ‘at 11.4 GHz from a relativistic klystron, and 140MV/m longitudinal gradient in a short 11.4 GHz accelerator section. We report here on the design of our first klystrons, the results of our experiments so far, and some of our plans for the near future.

High-gradient electron accelerator powered by a relativisitic klystron.
We have used relativistic klystron technology to extract 290-MW of peak power ‘at 11.4 GHz from an induction linac beam, and to power a short 11.4-GHz highgradient accelerator. We have measured rf phase stability, field-emission, and the momentum spectrum of an accelerated electron beam. An average accelerating gradient of 84 MV/ h b m as een achieved with 80-MW of relativistic klystron power.

متن کاملRf Power Sources for Linear Colliders*
The next generation of linear colliders requires peak power sourcesof-over 200 MW per meter at frequencies above 10 GHz at pulse widths of less than 100 nsec. Several power sources are under active development, including a conventional klystron with RF pulse compression, a relativistic klystron (RK) and a crossed-field amplifier. Power from one of these has energized a 0.5 meter two-section Hig...
متن کاملAchieving Phase and Amplitude Stability in Pulsed Superconducting Cavities (Invited)
Superconducting cavities exhibit a high susceptibility to mechanical perturbations due to the narrow bandwidth of the cavities. Significant phase and amplitude errors can be induced by the frequency variations driven by microphonics and Lorentz force detuning especially in the case of pulsed operation where mechanical resonances of the cavity can be excited. While the relativistic electron and ...
